How Do You Abate Termites Infesting A Piano?
We bought a 15 year old Baldwin upright recently. It appears to have some termite infestation. How can the termites be abated?

Fumigation is the surest and isn’t supposed to alter the resonance. You could also try an extended period of cold, say just above freezing (or up to 5 below if you can get the timber under 6% moisture content). Don’t go injecting stuff until you have control and avoid solvents like orange oil or boron products with glycol as these can alter the resonance.
It would help it you have them properly identified as it may be a beetle infestation.
If only one piece of backing timber is affected (common), just replace it.

you will need to contact a fumigation company, not all pest control companies are licensed to do fumigation..in parts of the country where drywood termites are found it probably won’t be a problem finding one and is cost effective..in other parts of the country you may or may not have any luck and if you do find one you may not want to pay their price
