What To Do About Mice? Best Traps?

I just moved into a dorm/apartment room in Boston and last night I heard and saw mice rummaging through our trash in the kitchen. Its just one big room so I am worried it will get into my bed somehow…will it?? Also, what is the best mouse trap to catch them? I can not sleep!

Victor makes the best snap traps, imho. However, the key is bait. You want stuff that the mouse can’t resist, and that he can’t steal.
Use a stapler to staple a small bit of raw bacon on the bait trigger. Sounds crazy, but it works. The mouse can’t chew through the staple (unlike thread), and it will trip the trap inevitably.
Peanut butter is the second best bait. Organic works well.
Cover your trash can in the meantime, and any pet bowls, if you have them. The mice will be hungry and will go for the traps.

    I have had similar problems.
    1. always clean up the poop and see if any more returns.
    2. Use a GLUE TRAP with a SMALL!!! bit of chocolate cookie in the middle. NO MOUSE in the world can resist choco-cookie, and escape from a glue trap.
Snap traps need a certain STRENGTH of PULL or TOUCH on them to snap. But a mouse can gently lick the bait for hours and not trip the snap trap.
GLUE, baby, is where it’s at. they have to step in the GLUE to even have a licky….

PS: later…. there is no slow death with glue. they die within a few minutes from FRIGHT. I have also used traps that catch them alive. They are often dead before morning from FRIGHT.
Spray??? Poison??? these cause the mice to loose judgement for a few days. They wander the kitchen in broad daylight seeking water. only when they drink, do they die.
Yes, be kind to the VERMIN, and give them time to raise a family between your walls. Thank you.

Gosh it seems there must be a more humane solution to the mice problem other than allowing them to die a slow death with glue. Have you told your apartment manager? They should have an extermination service that sprays.
If you have mice, everyone in the apartment complex will have mice. Keep food like cereal etc in plastic containers, I actually keep most things that I think mice would find tasty in the fridge.
Mice are everywhere, just like roaches. You just can’t see the roaches as easily.
