Some Tips to Control Pests in Your Home
At some point of your life, you must have encountered a problem involving pests in your home. Maybe, it was ants marching all over the place, crawling and biting when you are having a rest, or maybe it was mosquitoes, buzzing in your ears and giving those itchy bites, or the rather sickening site of watching cockroaches crawling in your kitchen. Same is the case with bed bugs, mice and other pests, which can cause many problems including diseases for you and your family. To cut the long story short, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be going for the kill, even better, you should take preventive measures, so that you’ll never have to face such problems. Stopping pests from invading your home is not impossible at all; in fact some simple steps can easily minimize the problem.
First thing you must know is that pests (like any other living being) are always looking for favorable conditions to live and breed. By eradicating such favorable conditions, you can deter them from entering or inhabiting your home. The very first thing you should do is to block the entrance. For some species of pest, it might be easy, while others may sneak in anyway. Still, closing small holes and cracks in your home will help, especially for comparatively large pests like rats. Similarly, using glass or mesh on your windows can prevent flying pests from entering the rooms. Make sure, there are no welcoming place/conditions inside or near your home, for example garbage bins, standing water, and the likes. Keeping it clean and tidy will avert most pests away. When trying to get rid of the pests, you should make sure that the method or chemical being used is not injurious to human’s health. Otherwise, you may need to evacuate your home for couple of days (don’t forget to warn your neighbors when you are using such chemicals). Also remember that most of the times, these chemicals are not essential, avoid such methods if they are not necessary.
Take professional help when the problem seems to be getting out of control, professional companies will asses the condition and recommend all possible ways. Consult couple of companies and someone from your family or friends who have dealt with a similar situation before making your mind. Pest control is relatively hard if you are living in an apartment building, since it will take an overall effort by the residents to get rid of pests, otherwise they can easily travel from one apartment to another.

Organic Gardening Pest Control – Some Insects Can Help You
Pests are harmful insects which are detrimental to the growth of plants. To have a healthy and prosperous organic garden, one must adopt various ways to eliminate these pests. However, using pesticides can defeat the whole purpose of organic gardening. Pesticides are harmful chemicals which are likely to enter our system through the vegetables and fruits we cultivate. Besides, pesticides can kill even those helpful insects that help in getting rid of harmful pests. There are many insects which are natural predators of pests and can be used extensively for organic gardening pest control.
Green lacewing larvae are great enemies of some of the soft bodied pests called aphids. These larvae also feed on mites and eggs of the pest insects. These larvae thrive in humid conditions. Mealy bug, a pest found in greenhouses, spider mites, whiteflies, moths and tobacco budworm are other pests that fall prey to the lacewing larvae. These larvae should be deployed at least 4 times, with a gap of two weeks, to make use of their entire life cycle.
Ladybugs and ground beetles feed on many of the pests too. AN adult ladybug can eat up to a thousand aphids per day. Ladybugs are very active and hence they are cooled off in a fridge to make them less active and hence prevent them from disappearing out of the garden itself. They stick better in moist soil. Even as larvae, they can eat hundred of aphids a day.
Fly parasites are tiny flies which do not sting or bite and live entirely off pupa or larva of the pests. They are natural predators of the most common pests like house flies, stable flies, horn flies and face flies. Decaying organic matter where pests usually thrive is also the environment where fly parasites can be found in great number, thus preventing the very growth of the pests.
Beneficial nematodes can prey on as many as 250 different species of pests. Maggots, worms and fleas are common prey to these nematodes which usually hunt underground. These are also useful because of their resistance to pesticides.
Organic gardening pest control is hence very much possible through natural ways instead of resorting to use of chemicals that undo the benefits of organic gardening.
